Old Age Security Payment Dates
(Upcoming Payment)
January 29th, 2025
The Canada Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) program is a financial assistance initiative designed to provide additional income to low-income seniors who are already receiving the Old Age Security (OAS) pension. The program aims to reduce poverty among elderly Canadians by ensuring they have sufficient financial resources to meet their basic needs.
To qualify for the GIS, applicants must be receiving the OAS pension and have a low income. The eligibility for GIS is determined based on the applicant’s income from the previous year. The program uses a sliding scale to calculate benefits, meaning the amount received decreases as the recipient’s income increases. Seniors must apply for the GIS, and the application can be done through Service Canada. Those who qualify must renew their application each year by filing their income tax returns, as the amount of GIS is adjusted annually based on changes in income.
The dates below are days when the payment will be issued from the pension program payment system. Pensioners will receive their direct deposit within 1-2 business days from the issuing date. If you are receiving the mailed cheque, please allow 1-2 weeks of Canada Post mailing time.
Your CPP and OAS benefits are paid under 2 different direct deposits or mailed cheque(s). If you are receiving GIS, your GIS amount will be deposited together under your OAS benefit payment.

April 11, 2023 3:50 pmHello Marilyn,
GIS amount is revised annually based on your previous year’s income tax declaration amount. Only the OAS portion will continue to be adjusted higher based on inflation.

May 22, 2023 2:22 pmdo i need to reply for the GIS if my income was to high last couple of years but no longer is. It was clawed back due to CERB 2 years ago I believe. and as a result, I no longer receive it. My 2022 income is well below the cut off threshhold

May 22, 2023 2:27 pmHello Paul,
GIS is an income tested program where it is re-evaluated for eligibility every year. If your 2022 income has gone down under the threshold, it it very likely that you will be qualified for GIS in the next period (July 2023 to June 2024). Please call pension call centre to ensure that your new income has been successfully captured by the pension processing office, or else, you will not see the new GIS payment.

July 28, 2023 9:55 amI have a Question:
This time I received $302.42 more for my OAS. That is a huge difference. Was there an increase or did I receive some GIC. How do I find out and/or who to call to confirm. I do not want to have to refund at a later stage as it may be difficult to do if already spent, given the inflation, etc.
Thank you

February 16, 2024 3:47 pmHi Bimox,
CPP/OAS is a federal program, so you can apply at any province. If you have contributed to QPP, you will have to apply QPP directly with QC government. Everything else is the same anywhere in Canada.
